The Terra Profunda Company

Established in 2003, Terra Profunda was the first diving travel agency 100% based in Mozambique. The company has developed and grown to an international recognized Tour Operator for diving and safaris in Mozambique. The company also organizes some expeditions in South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and will advice you for any trips in Southern Africa.

The company is owned and operated by Christophe Chazot, a French national with 15 years experience in Africa. After many years working as a “safari tour guide” in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and South Africa, the next step for this PADI certified Dive instructor was to discover the hidden secrets of Mozambique in a more “aquatic” environment... Hence followed the move to the small coastal village of Tofo, the future Mecca of Mozambique.

Babeth from France organizes the office of Terra Profunda. The charismatic lady has been living for many years in-between Africa, Canada and France. She works with Christophe ever since the old times of Namibian adventures.

Jule from Germany joined the Terra Profunda team in September 2008. She used to work in Egypt and Kenya and have a great experience in tourism and diving. She takes care of the german market and make sure that everybody is happy and smiling.

Martina from Mozambique is our accountant. She has been working with Terra Profunda for 2 years. She is the best one to deal with local authorities and knows almost everybody in the area.

Gabriel, from Mozambique will be the first person of the team you will meet. He organizes all the road transfers, excursions and will show you all the interesting points around Tofo.

Restaurant Casa de Comer

As they were no restaurant in Tofo and good local supplies in food (fish, vegetables …), Christophe decided in 2005 to open a French/Mozambican restaurant in Tofo: “La Casa de Comer” was born. Christian, a French professional chef stayed 6 months in Tofo to teach the Mozambican “future” chef with a great success. He is now based in Marloth Park in South Africa and organizes the safaris.

The restaurant is now managed by Belgium chef,Vincent. He is still teaching the Mozambican to become “chefs”. He makes sure that quality food is served with a mix of magic and style… Bom appétit!

Guest house Baia Sonambula

In 2008, Christophe decided to rebuild his house in front of Tofo beach and to change it on a small guest house. Emeric, his friend from the old times of Namibian adventures was immediately interested by the project and decided to be part of this new adventure. The guest house, with its 5 rooms is now considered as the best accommodation in Tofo.

Local settings and programs

Last , but not least Terra Profunda, Casa de Comer and Baia Sonambula employ about 30 Mozambican people in Tofo. Josepha, Ernesto, Carlos, Bernado and many more are trained in various fields. We try to build up a long term team of local staff.

Terra profunda is also very involved in different local associations like AMAR, ALMA, NHAPUPWE, POSITIVO who are trying to preserve and develop the area.

Terra Profunda believes in the politics of "microcredit" and helps a lot his employees to realize their dreams.
